When you hear the words “bail money,” you may only think of someone who has committed a horrific crime. However, there are actually certain traffic citations that can land you in jail and require you to post bail. Our bond agents at A Way Out Bail Bonds are capable of helping you regardless of the situation.
Here are at least four types of traffic citations for which our agents have experience posting bail:
1. Driving While Intoxicated
Many people mistakenly assume that driving while intoxicated (DWI) and driving under the influence (DUI) are the same offense. However, these are two different offenses in the state of Texas. It is important for you to understand that you can be arrested for DWI if your breath alcohol concentration (BAC) is .08 or higher. You can also be charged for DWI if you are otherwise impaired regardless of your BAC. Since you may have to spend time in jail for a DWI, you will likely need bail money.
2. Driving Under the Influence
The main difference between DWI and DUI in Texas is age. If you are under 21 years old in Texas, you can be arrested for DUI regardless of your BAC. In most cases, a minor is not likely to spend jail time for a DUI.
3. Illegal Use of a Motor Vehicle
If you knowingly use another person’s motor vehicle (as well as a, boat, airplane, etc.) without his or her consent, you are committing a felony that is punishable by jail time.
4. Reckless Driving
Reckless driving is easily recognizable as a blatant disregard for the safety of others on the road. Reckless driving also includes disrespect for property and an arrest for this offense may require jail time and bail money.
